Audience Engagement Tools for Your Event

Events are only as successful as the audience is engaged. In this article, we take a look at some of the best audience engagement tools for your event.

The goal of any speaker is to keep their audience as engaged as possible. A good speech will do some of the leg work, but you also need the right tools to help you out. Audience engagement tools can bridge that gap, drawing audience members deeper into your presentation.

In this article, we take a look at the best audience engagement tools for your next event.

Audience Engagement Tools That Catch the Eye

Craft a presentation that caters to as many levels of human perception as possible. Speech is good, but it’s also only one of the many ways that people absorb information. What’s more, many people aren’t even particularly good at learning through the spoken word, which means if you rely on talking for your entire presentation, you may be alienating a sizable chunk of your audience.

Aim for visual stimulation. Motion graphics are a relatively easy-to-use example that can fuse multiple types of media into one very malleable medium. It’s also important to make use of a healthy mix of videos, images, and GIFs.

If you really want to go above and beyond, you can even consider interactive elements that touch on the other senses. Things audience members can touch, taste, or smell will cater to more of their senses and do a lot to grab attention and draw them further into the presentation.

Rethink Microphones

At corporate-level events, there is a good chance that many people in the audience will value the opportunity to contribute their own thoughts to the presentation. Q&A segments or even moments that allow for commentary from the audience can be a good way to facilitate this.

Historically, these moments have been facilitated by in-house microphones. Unfortunately, this can create logistical problems. Long, uncomfortable lines distract from the presentation. Accessibility issues for people who can’t stand for long periods of time. Hygienic issues, for people who simply don’t want to handle a microphone that has been touched by a dozen strangers.

Digital technology has found a way to significantly improve the process. Now, audience members can use their phones to tap into the presentation and submit questions electronically. Duelbox provides a Q&A feature to accomplish exactly this.

All that’s required of the audience is to scan a QR code or visit a link on their phone’s browser and they are ready to interact! This upgraded Q&A will boost engagement, and solve a whole host of logistical problems.

Audience Polling

Similar to the last point, audience polling technology gives people the opportunity to voice their opinion in an orderly fashion. Polling technology allows you to gain free feedback and insights from the audience. It also locks audience members in because when they know they will be asked for their opinion, they pay closer attention to the event.

At Duelbox, we’ve gamified polls with Versus – Live Polls. This poll shows two opposing sides and lets the audience choose one in real time. As the audience votes, you see both sides push back and forth and the percentages change.

Breakout Sessions

Allow your audience to break off into smaller groups and then return to the larger group after a short time. This is a great audience engagement tool. This lets people switch gears and start to process and think about your presentation material practically. It lets people reenergize, learn from others, and return to your session with a boost in energy.
